In order to add another gun to your
permit, Nevada requires that you pass a live fire proficiency
test in the presence of an approved instructor. You must do this
if you want to add any gun which is of a different make, model and caliber than those already listed on your permit.
It's really quite easy.
As of October 1, 2007,
if you qualify on one model of revolver (your choice), you may carry
ANY
model revolver. For semi-autos, you still qualify with every different
model that you wish to carry.
First,
you must perform a live-fire qualification
in the presence of an approved instructor. Upon successful
completion of the
live fire test, a "Certificate of Completion" is issued to you
by the instructor.
Next, take this
certificate along with your current CCW permit to your local Sheriff's Office
during regular
business
hours,
and ask for your existing permit to be changed, reflecting the new
additional gun(s) you have qualified with.
The Sheriff's office will create
a new permit, with the new/additional gun(s) added to it. This is
usually done while you
wait, and takes only a few minutes. Usually.
If you are really pressed for time, you may mail in
your certificate, payment for $15.00, a photocopy of your existing
CCW permit, and a letter requesting that the new gun(s)
be added to your permit. Be sure that the mailing address
on your permit matches your current mailing address.
The new permit with the new gun(s) listed will be mailed to
you, usually within two weeks. Once you have
received your new permit, you are required to destroy the old
permit OR turn it back it to the Sheriff's Office.
Remember,
there is no limit to the number of guns that you may have on your CCW
permit, but it is more
economical if you do a "group addition" at one time. The
Washoe County Sheriff's Office charges a $15.00 service
fee each time
that you change any information on your permit, not
$15.00 for each new gun added to the permit.
Example: If you added a
Glock 23 to your permit, the fee would be $15.00. If
you added a Glock 20, 21, 22,
and a 23, the fee would still be $15.00, providing, of
course, that you do this "group addition" during one visit. If
you
go back the next day and add a Glock 17, they will charge you
another $15.00. One gun or ten guns, the Sheriff's
Office
service fee is the same.
